"The fruits of victory would be ashes in our mouth."
The "ashes" quote above came from correspondence letters between President John F. Kennedy and his Soviet counterpart Nikita Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. I thought of it after the democrat "victory" on the so-called "stimulus" bill for the obvious reasons. The Cuban Missile Crisis dealt with the struggle between freedom and oppression, democracy versus communism, good versus evil. These are the exact same themes today with regards to the so-called "stimulus" bill. Unfortunately, we have a different outcome this time around, with tyranny winning the day.
CT POP QUIZ: Who said, "I will bury you" and who said "I will trump you"? HINT: Same motivation, just a different suit
Just for the fun of it (and out of sheer boredom), I pulled some quotes from President Kennedy's first letter to Kruschev during this missile crisis and made some minor modifications. See if you can spot them...
...I want to say a few words to the captive people ofWow. Did't have to change a thing in the last paragraph.CubaAmerica, to whom this speech is being directly carried byspecial radioChattering Teeth Blog facilities. I speak to you as a friend, as one who knows of your deep attachment to your fatherland, as one who shares your aspirations for liberty and justice for all. And I have watched and theAmericanGod loving conservative people have watched with deep sorrow how your nationalist revolution was betrayed-- and how your fatherland fell underforeignliberal democrat domination. Now your leaders are no longerCubansane leaders inspired byCubanfree market capitalism ideals. They are puppets and agents ofan international conspiracyGeorge Soros, The Huffing Glue Post, The Daily (Wa)Kos, Code pinkos, PETA, and the rest of society's dregs which has turnedCubathe powers of the government against you...
Thesenew weaponsleftwing liberal counter-culture bong hitting democrats are not in your interest. They contribute nothing to your peace and well-being. They can only undermine it... We know that your lives and land are being used as pawns by those who deny your freedom. Many times in the past, theCuban peopleAmerican voters have risen to throw out tyrants who destroyed their liberty. And I have no doubt that mostCubansvoters today look forward to the time when they will be truly free--free fromforeigndemocrat domination, free to choose their own leaders, free to select their own system, free to own their own land, free to speak and write and worship without fear or degradation. And then shallCubaAmerica be welcomed back to the society of free nations...
My fellow citizens: let no one doubt that this is a difficult and dangerous effort on which we have set out. No one can see precisely what course it will take or what costs or casualties will be incurred. Many months of sacrifice and self-discipline lie ahead--months in which our patience and our will will be tested--months in
which many threats and denunciations will keep us aware of our dangers. But the greatest danger of all would be to do nothing.
MICHAEL STEELE: “If you like government dependence, you will love the plan they are jamming through Congress.”

Buyer's remorse setting in? Hey Obama, how's them ashes taste to ya?
WHINEY NYT's COLUMNIST: President Obama's victory with the economic-stimulus package feels more than a bit like defeat.
ReplyDeleteWait a few months.
Yet they will tell us ashes taste good.
ReplyDeleteNeatly tucked into the "stimulus package was a hijacking of health care. check this out (from Bloomberg).

Bill: This to me is the most alarming thing: the provision in the stimulus to start to destroy health care with some sort of authority being set up that can take health care away from people.
ReplyDeleteProsperity should not be "Rationed", nor should health care.
Daschle advised Obama to sneak it in, which is what he's done.
ReplyDeleteMy father will be 85 in August. On election day, 2007, when I was keeping the Democrats honest, I received a phone call from my brother saying Dad had a mild heart attack and would need a by-pass. It turned out to be 5 by-passes.
ReplyDeleteWould those bastards (can I say that) have allowed an 83 year old man to have this life saving surgary? My brother flew to FL (one of us had to mind the store) to help get Dad home from the hospital and stay for a while to help out. Brother was only away for 10 days. The night before he came back home, Mom, Dad & Brother went to a favorite Chinese restaurant (no kidding DaBlade) and Dad was so anxious he carried his walker. A month or so later Dad was back to his normal routine although a bit less rigorously. Now he's as good as he was at 80.
Who the eff are these liberals to decide when someone is too old for medical care. We already know that they think nothing of killing babies. Guess the liberals have a neat little time line. Either you fit or you're terminated.
P.S. Fitting that my verification word is "excess." Those bastards.
I see where Sum gets his love of Chinese food! What a great story and happy ending for you dad. You left out the part about him kicking your butt in golf. The theme is not lost, however. Socialized "health care" will be targeted and temporary. Don't bother waiting in the very lengthy line to see the doctor if you're 85 and need surgery.
ReplyDeleteIt's gotten really bad...today I was thinking how much better off we would be if Hillary had won the electoin.
