You're gonna need a bigger liar

First off, I never knew it would be possible for Lindsey Graham to rehabilitate himself in my eyes, but there you have it. Second, I don't know why his outburst at the democrats in the hearings last week reminded me of the Chief Brody/Mrs. Kintner scene from the movie Jaws, but here you have it.

Senator Feinstein? I just found out, that a girl gave you a letter full of lies in July, and you knew it! You knew there was a lying shark out there! You knew it was dangerous! But you let Kavanaugh testify anyway? You knew all those things, yet you didn't bring it up until the end! Boy, you guys want power. God, I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can see through this sham. That you knew about it and you held it. But still my boy's confirmation is delayed now. Oh, he will be confirmed and there's nothing you can do about it. My boy will be confirmed. I wanted you to know that.

[Mrs. Lindsey Kintner walks away]

To my Republican colleagues, if you vote no, you’re legitimizing the most despicable thing I’ve seen in politics. I'm not going to stand here and see that thing cut open and see the confirmation spill out all over the dock. To Judge Kavanaugh, I hope you’re on the Supreme Court. That’s exactly where you should be.

  1. I think Feinstein, knowing she's old, finally threw away the tiny amount of integrity she had to be part of this subterfuge. A good Senate would remove her ability to be on any committee to punish her party, but I'm not thinking we have a good Senate. Too many career politicians are involved, and they really like their country club privileges.

We'll see if the Republicans have what it takes. If they don't, they are probably not going to enjoy the next few months.

  2. This is all about DECENCY. Pure and simple. So we can't expect most Dems to vote FOR it. Should get very interesting and it's a bit scary.
At my blog, I suggested that Ford's attorney has NO RIGHT to say she feels those at the top of this FBI investigation "don't want to get to the truth".. She's not there to lecture or even weigh in on the situation, she's there to keep her client from perjuring herself, being badly treated, etc. Isn't that right?

  3. Politics (not just diplomacy) is war by other means.
    This is war.
Our rules of engagement prevent us from shooting the enemy.
    Or slandering or behaving uncivilly.
Their rules allow everything, including, it seems, physically attacking us occasionally.

  4. Jess, well said but I really think they are going to get 'er done this time. Look at the re-invention of Lindsey Graham for example. Maybe I'm just a "glass half full of ice cubes to throw" kind of optimist... we'll know soon enough.

Z, It is about decency. One side doesn't have any. Once again you are on point.

Ed, Agreed. Time to engage on their terms I suppose.
