Her-icane Bristol

Sarah Palin's 17-year-old unmarried daughter, Bristol, is pregnant. No amount of "category 5" spin can make this a positive. Yes, she will not be killing the baby and she is even going to marry the father. Whoopdedoo! Listen, I am not suggesting that girls in this position be made to wear a Scarlet Letter. However, it should be made clear to our youths once again that this is not just another way to go. It should not be celebrated. It is a drag on society.

I remember a local front page story of an area high school girl that somehow managed to juggle homework and cheerleading practice, while simultaneously raising a tenement full of babies. It read like an advertisement for this lifestyle!

The breakdown of the American family is the root cause of every social ill in this country, and the root cause of this breakdown is 1960s radical liberalism. While I agree with the governor that she will give her daughter "unconditional love and support," it does open our side to the question of why she should be trusted to potentially run the White House if she couldn't run her own house.

Per the story: "Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way."

Bull. I don't believe it. I think he was blindsided by this and is doing damage control. There probably won't be major "damage" to McCain on this. There really is no other way to go. But Her-icane Bristol, coupled with the real hurricane-shortened convention, one must admit that this has not been a great weekend for his campaign.

  1. Arthur Culvahouse was in charge of vetting all prospective VP picks. He goes back as far as the Reagan White House as a DC lawyer.
Culvahouse conducted a nearly three-hour-long interview. From an interview/ story today:

    >He said the first thing she volunteered was that her daughter was pregnant, and she also quickly disclosed her husband's DUI arrest.<

    The story is here:

  2. OK, so much for shooting from the hip. I leave for work at 8ish and have to live with whatever I posted for the rest of the day, even if got something wrong (which as you know, just doesn't happen here often). I have not left the reservation, especially after last night.

The one thing I was hearing from both sides on this issue that was driving me nuts was that "personal lives of the candidates and their families don't matter." The hell they don't! If one is caught in an Atlanta airport bathroom tapping his shoe in the stall, I guess I'd like to know that. If one is hitting on a fat female intern and desecrating cigars in the process, I'd like full disclosure. If one cavorts with terrorists and goes to a hate-filled church for 20 years, I guess it interests me.

That said, a pregnant teenage daughter is not even in the same stratosphere of importance. However, my point was that this didn't help. I agree that it is dispicable what the leftist have been doing in the attempt to destroy this awesome vp candidateand her family.

My only point: I don't think we should conceed on the "personal lives don't matter" issue.

  3. Wow!! Talk about getting the"dirt" on somebody. A DUI twenty two years ago and a pregnant daughter. The friendship of Obama and home grown terriost William Ayers hardly seems relavant now nor does Bidens' under investigation son or brother for crooked hedge fund dealings. I guess the MSM knows what's important.
